Let's Remember Isaac

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” - Gen. 22:1-2 Memorial Day has always had a special place in my heart from the yearly parade honoring those who have given the ultimate sacrifice or living in Hampton Roads where every facet of the military is represented. I love this picture of my nephew who met this veteran at Lowe's recently. This man joined the Navy at age 16 and spent his teen years in the pacific theater of war so we could enjoy freedom today. Amazing. Author David Brooks says, wise people invest in growing your "eulogy life," not just your "resume life." I would say the gentleman above has built quite a "eulogy life." I have always been fascinated by the story in Genesis 22 of Abraham being tested by God to sacrifice his son Isaac. I have heard numerous sermons on Abraham, but none on Isaac. Today, I want to give you a "sermon" on Isaac. We get this image of Abraham holding his little boy's hand as they trudge up Mt. Moriah. Do you know that Isaac was not a little

boy, but a 30+-year-old young man? Isaac could have very easily overpowered his "old man", but he willingly laid himself upon the altar they had prepared. Isaac was a Memorial offering . . . We are in an emotional war of trying to get our "Isaac" on the altar. It is like trying to wrestle a greased pig. It alludes us. It overpowers us. We got no chance. As the flags are put away for another year and the marching bands have all gone home, let's remember Isaac. Let's take the posture o

f Isaac trusting in His God to take our life and make something special out of it.

A Memorial Life . . . A Eulogy Life
